The 2010 Zespri Gold harvest has begun

New Zealand kiwifruit exporter Zespri has announced that the 2010 campaign is set for an early start, with output and quality similar to last season.

Carol Ward, director of corporate and grower services at Zespri, said: “I’ve recently attended a number of grower meetings and it was fantastic to see the positive feeling across the industry heading into the 2010 season. Worldwide, people are beginning to recover from the economic downturn, which bodes well for our industry. Zespri continues to invest aggressively in overseas marketing and in research and development, including on-orchard productivity and new cultivars, to secure the best possible returns for New Zealand kiwifruit growers.”

The Zespri Gold harvest began in some areas last week and green fruit is expected to start in the next few weeks.

The first shipments bound for Europe from New Zealand will leave later this month.
