A seasonal survey conducted by vegetable seed companies in the Netherlands has indicated that the country's total pepper production is set to be around 40ha lower on aggregate in 2011.
As reported in leading Dutch agricultural newspaper the Agrarisch Dagblad, production of green and yellow peppers in particular is expected to decrease compared with last year.
Total production area is anticipated to be around 1,410 hectares, some 40ha less than in 2010, the report stated.
Green pepper production is likely to fall by 50ha to 140ha, while the area dedicated to yellow peppers looks set to be 30ha lower at 370ha.
However, the Dutch pepper sector is also expecting significant increases in orange and red pepper production area, by 10ha to 105ha and by 30ha to 800ha respectively.
