Scottish vegetable producer R&K Drysdale has won one of 22 Scottish food and drink grants in a £3 million round of Food Processing, Marketing and Co-operation Scheme awards made by the Scottish government. The Borders-based firm has bagged £647,647 for a new processing, packing and storage building, refrigeration equipment and grading line. It is the largest producer of swede in the UK and also specialises in Brussels sprouts and leeks. Chris Keenan, md at Drysdale’s, said: “We are delighted with this award which allows Drysdale’s, to press ahead with a large scale upgrade and expansion of our operations. The award creates further job opportunities as well as securing the long term future for our existing 140 staff. Without Scottish government assistance, these developments could not have progressed.”
