Druse farmers in the Golan Heights will export 10,000 tonnes of apples to Syria this year. Following last year's success exporting some 5,000t, Israeli authorities agreed to enable the Druse farmers to market their apples in Syria this year again.

Consignments are transported through the Kuneitra crossing, which is operative for this purpose. The total yield of apples from Druse orchards in the Golan Heights is estimated at 15,000t this year.

Trade sources in Tel Aviv said that the export of apples to Syria is good for the Druse farmers and good for the Israeli market, in view of the large yields of apples this year. The sources added that Israel plans to export apples and other deciduous fruits to other neighbouring countries, through Jordan, which has active commercial ties with Israel.
