Dragons’ Den star Kirsy Henshaw is set to launch a new range of chilled ready meals made from natural ingredients.
Henshaw, best remembered for pitching her range of allergen-free frozen desserts for children on the BBC show, will launch the range with Sainsbury’s and hopes it will turn people off high-fat ready meals.
“My real passion has always been to produce great tasting, healthy, nutritious alternatives to mainstream foods - I’ve always wanted to transform the ready-meal market," said Henshaw.
“My ready meals are suitable for anyone looking to eat a little healthier. I’ve used natural food swaps and interesting ingredients such as quinoa, aduki beans and sweet potato.”
The range of chilled meals titled Kirsty’s will be priced at £2.85 each and launch later this year.
Sainsbury’s is hoping to get a bigger slice of the £188 million so-called healthy ready-meals market that is growing ahead of own-brands at a rate of 12 per cent year-on-year according to Kantar.
Cristina Proietti, ready-meals buyer at Sainsbury's, sidd: “We're always looking for new and creative producers who can add to Sainsbury’s; Kirsty's range is a great example of making it easier for customers with dietary requirements.”
