Despite stating that two lawsuits leveled against it were without merit, Dole Food has settled out of court to end a dispute over alleged banana price fixing.

Dole, along with three other banana companies, was accused of violating EU laws covering banana and pineapple importers and distributors operating within the European Economic Area.

It has settled out of court, and Michael Carter, Dole executive vice president and general counsel, said the company continues to believe that the lawsuits were "without merit".

He added: "Once there is final court approval, these settlement agreements will bring to an end this litigation against Dole and will not have any material effect on the Company's financial condition or results."
