Banana disease black sigatoka has been discovered in Dominica.
According to Dominica News Online, farm minister Matthew Walter has initiated emergency steps to contain the disease. He said: “Well before the confirmation [of the disease’s discovery], we activated an emergency action plan for the management and control of black sigatoka.”
Public awareness campaigns are being stepped up and government has released funding for control and management strategies.
