Ken Boyns has been appointed director of Market Intelligence at the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) with immediate effect.

Having performed the role as interim director of Market Intelligence, he taked up the role following the conclusion of a national recruitment process.

The AHDB Market Intelligence division is responsible for the collection, analysis and publication of information to bring greater transparency to food supply chains and to assist primary producers in their business decision making. This includes pricing information and price trends, market analysis and consumer trends.

A spokesperson told FPJ that, while the service is not currently used by horticultural levy payers, a study is being conducted to see what the demand would be. It is due to conclude at the end of the financial year.

He said: “Market intelligence was done separately by many of the former levy boards and when AHDB was formed it decided there was a good deal of cross-over in data collection and distribution which would generate savings for levy payers if it was run as a single central team.”

AHDB ceo Tom Taylor said: “Market intelligence is a critical business service for AHDB levy payers and I’m delighted we have identified the best person to further develop these high quality services. Ken, whose background experience is in this discipline, had been acting as interim Director of AHDB Market Intelligence since 1 November 2010”.
