The Fruit & Vegetable Summit, held under the auspices of the World Health Organisation and the Food & Agriculture Organisation of the UN in Paris last week, brought together 350 high-level delegates from 28 countries to look at strategies to increase worldwide access to good-quality fresh produce.

The three-day event featured speakers from around the globe and looked at nutritional, commercial and marketing aspects.

The conclusions drawn were that a good-quality diet - which by definition includes a large proportion of fruit and vegetables - is necessary to combat chronic diseases including obesity, and that improving diet is one of the most pressing public health priorities on a global scale.
