An interim chair for Levy Board UK has been announced by Defra following the resignation of John Hall at the end of last month.

Andrew Colquhoun, chairman of the National Horticultural Forum, is to take on the role.

He will represent horticultural interests on Levy Board UK over the next few months, pending the results of a full public appointment process to replace Hall.

Hall resigned after just two months in the post.

His resignation letter to Defra said: “Although there is nothing new to report, as it was well reported in the trade press at the time, I am concerned that constant references to the demise of that company [Needham Growers, which went into administration last year] are distracting me, my colleagues and the horticultural industry from carrying out the work of the LBUK and the new Horticultural Sector Company.”

The post will be advertised on the Public Appointment Unit (PAU) website and Defra’s public appointment page from May 15.

The closing date for applications will be June 11.
