Leading seed breeder De Ruiter is hoping for further success with a move into melons.
Launching its new Melorange range at Fruit Logistica in Berlin is the culmination of 15 years of breeding, said De Ruiter’s David Truscott.
The first of the range to be launched is called Orange Delight and features bright orange, firm flesh and is very sweet.
“It’s not unusual for the sugar levels to be as high as 15 per cent,” said Truscott
Production is set to get underway in Brazil with first fruit set to hit the market in September. “We’ve been speaking to growers around the world and we can ensure 365 day availability of the fruit,” he added.
