DBC Foodservice closures cost 287 jobs

DBC foodservice has gone into administration causing 287 confirmed job losses and putting another 450 jobs at risk.

The closure of the food firm’s depot in South Yorkshire sees 100 people put out of work while a further 96 posts are being cut in Berkshire, 34 in Essex and 25 in Cardiff.

On top of that 12 jobs will be lost at DBC’s West Midlands site, 13 will go in Devon and five in Cheshire.

The fate of a further 450 employees has not yet been decided but Baker Tilly said it was “likely” there would be further redundancies.

However, Baker Tilly said 182 posts would be saved in Petersfield in Hampshire, and 82 in Dundonald in Ayrshire, as a result of the partial buyout to supply the MoD.

The contract for the provision of foodstuffs to the MoD, which DBC had held since 2006, has been acquired by Vestey Foods.

Vestey Foods UK Ltd deputy CEO, Adam Cox said: “Our priority has been to ensure the continuation of the MoD food supply chain and the undisrupted delivery of high quality food that the Armed Forces rely on.

“The acquisition of the DBC Foodservice MoD contract will not only ensure that this can be achieved, but it will also safeguard over a fifth of the total number of DBC’s UK staff.”

DBC was put on the market over a week ago but no buyer was found and the company was forced into administration.
