Alan Forrester has forsaken his new role as managing director at Capespan UK, announced just last month, to take a promotion to the joint top job at his current firm Univeg UK.

Fresh produce supplier Univeg has reshuffled its management in the UK with David Prince leaving the company. Prince, who only joined the business in March succeeding Richard Wells on his retirement, will “pursue other interests”, a Univeg spokesperson explained.

As a result of this departure, Forrester and Mike Harpham will take over the management as joint managing directors with immediate effect.

Meanwhile the decision has astonished executives at Capespan, which had appointed Forrester to succeed Ronan Lennon when the latter leaves next month, according to a spokesman. “We are extremely surprised to hear about Alan’s new position. We only found out at the weekend. He had signed an employment contract with Capespan several weeks ago, but it would appear he is not now honouring that contract. He was due to start in a few weeks time.”

In a statement about Prince’s departure, the Belgian firm said: “Univeg wishes to thank David for what he has realised during his stay and wishes him the best for the future.”

Prince had worked at Produce World before joining Univeg.
