Sarah Durber has joined exotics wholesaler Tropifresh at New Spitalfields Market, London, in a full-time position to develop the company’s online presence.
The UCL geography graduate joins her father, Peter Durber, will use a new e commerce platform to bring produce to a wider audience.
She will also learn the day to day aspects of trading.
Durber graduated from UCL in 2011 with a degree in geography, where she specialised in International Relations and Development.
She then worked in PR before leaving for a 10,000 km cycle tour around South America, to fundraise for charity.
She became more involved the family business on her return, and accompanied her father on a series of business trips and New Spitalfields trade show events.
She said: “The more I was exposed to the market, the more it uncovered my passion for it and the industry at large.
“My academic background has made me a strong believer in trade as a catalyst for development, so I am excited to have the opportunity to help make a difference in the lives of farmers in developing economies, while marketing the taste and flavours of a remarkable range of tropical fruits and vegetables.”
She added: “For me New Spitalfields is a working symbol of globalisation and it excites me to be a part of that geography and work in a space of such connectivity.”
Tropifresh, which has been trading in Spitalfields since 1983, specialises in produce from South America, Central America, the Caribbean and Africa.
