DailyFresh Logistics will take over the commercial activities of Int-Veen, part of the Visbeen Group, one of the partners in DailyFresh, as of January 1, 2009.
Int-Veen, with a cross-dock facility in Venlo, specialises in temperature-controlled shipping between the Netherlands and Germany. The company mainly serves the larger fresh produce traders and sales organisations in the Netherlands and Germany. From 2009, clients will be able to rely on DailyFresh for their logistical services.
For DailyFresh, the acquisition of Int-Veen fits within its strategy to operate in Europe on a larger scale. The logistical service provider already has consolidation centres in Maasdijk and Dunkirk in France.
Erik de Vries, managing director of DailyFresh, said: “We see a trend among our customers whereby the shipment size is shrinking and retailers are seeking economies of scale from their logistical partners. A lot of our clients in Britain also trade with Germany. The acquisition of Int-Veen means that we can now serve those clients to both Britain and Germany.”
Int-Veen is strategically situated in Venlo at Fresh Park Venlo, the business park formerly known as ZON Auction. DailyFresh will open a new facility there in December with 12 loading docks and a warehouse that can be split into four temperature regimes.
Hein Wolff, DailyFresh commercial director, said: “With this acquisition we as DailyFresh immediately have sufficient critical mass to enter the German market. From there on we will aim at other European destinations. We are actively searching for new strategic hubs in other countries. Eastern Europe and Scandinavia are also very interesting markets for DailyFresh.”
