Daffs in early debut

Lincolnshire-based FloraLinc will shortly be packing English daffodils from the production unit of parent company Drings and from Cornwall.

According to FloraLinc managing director Paul Caddell, the season is running a week to two weeks early. "It's early because of the mild autumn we have had," said Caddell. "Cornwall will be on stream straight after Christmas and we expect Lincolnshire to be a week to two weeks early too."

Tulips are grown under glass in Cornwall and as a result the crop can be better controlled so cropping is expected to begin early in the new year.

FloraLinc is supplying some new daffodil varieties this season, some of which are completely new to the market and others that are available in greater volumes for the first time this season. "The range will include red and orange cups, doubles and pinks," said Caddell. The aim is to maintain customer interest and lengthen the start and end of season periods.
