Cut flowers on form at auction

Cut flowers were in demand at auction last week, which led to a constant stream of trade, Spalding Auction has reported.

Stocks and Sweet Williams were the main English supply, with all quality produce said to be commanding good prices.

It was also a good week for sales of pot and garden plants, with buyers looking for stock following the absence of a Monday auction. Bedding supplies reportedly began to thin out a little, with prices maintaining their strong run.

Spalding though went on to say that the elongated wet spell is affecting trade as gardeners are unable to plant up. On the plus side, excellent quality is said to be available for that break in the weather.

Meanwhile a good selection of edible produce was available, with good trade being seen on all days. Winter cauliflowers returned strong prices all day as their season comes to an end and summer caulis begin.

English soft fruit is now appearing more readily at the auction, and is meeting an ‘excellent response from buyers’, according to Spalding.
