The EAMU is good news for cucumber growers

The Horticultural Development Company (HDC) has secured a 120-day extension to allow British growers to use a fungicide that combats mildew on cucumber plants.

The HDC worked alongside the Cucumber Growers Association (CGA) to secure an Extension of Authorisation for Minor Use (EAMU) of fungicide Rocket EC.

Cucumber growers have faced a number of issues caused by powdery mildew already this season, and the EAMU is expected to be welcomed by growers.

CGA technical officer Derek Hargreaves said: "The powdery mildew this year has been with the industry since the start of the season and has presented many problems because we have only had two materials effective enough to control the disease - neither being particularly effective.

"The addition of Rocket EC should help UK growers through the difficult 2012 season.”
