The first ever London Markets’ Month has been criticised for excluding market tenants by the New Spitalfields Market Tenants’ Association.

Jim Heppel, secretary of the association, told FPJ at The Restaurant Show 2008 on Monday: “I am not enthusiastic about London Markets’ Month. The truth is there has been a lot of talk, but no-one has come to the New Spitalfields’ tenants and we have had no involvement.

“It has been more about the market authorities and operators and, unfortunately, they have forgotten about the tenants.”

The tenants’ association was exhibiting at the Earls Court event and introducing the crowds to the various exotic fruit and vegetables, such as kiwiberries and salak, also known as snakeskin fruit, that the wholesale market has to offer.
