The Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) is to host a workshop canvassing opinions of local food as part of its Mapping Local Food Webs project next month.

The event, as part of the scheme to explore the impact of local food on the local community, economy and environment, will take place in Haslemere, Surrey, on September 9.

The CPRE hopes to find out what local residents, shoppers and businesses think are the impacts of local food.

The event will explore local food issues important to the area, and identify strengths and weaknesses in the local food network.

Karen Gardham, CPRE’s South East regional co-ordinator for the project, said: “The workshop is a vital part of the Mapping Local Food Webs research. It’s a fantastic opportunity for shoppers and businesses in and around Haslemere to have their say on local food. Is local food better for the environment, do local food webs support the local economy, and do they increase our understanding of food?”
