William Edgerley has been appointed to the board of the Covent Garden Market Authority (CGMA) by DEFRA.

Brenda Dean, chairman of CGMA, welcomed Edgerley as the newest member of the CGMA board. His appointment follows the retirement of Jane Garrett after nine years of service on the CGMA board.

Dean said: “I am delighted that Jim Fitzpatrick, minister for food and farming, has appointed Bill, who will bring his considerable experience of property development to bear at this exciting time in our redevelopment plans for New Covent Garden Market.

“At the same time I am sad to see Jane Garrett leave us after her significant contribution over the many years of her board membership. On behalf of the board I would like to thank her for all her hard work and support.”

Edgerley was responsible for all major UK property developments within the P&O group for 15 years, including the Regents Quarter development in Kings Cross, London. He is a trustee of The Cutty Sark and special adviser to the National Maritime Museum.

Fitzpatrick also announced the reappointments of Michael Paske, John Wilson, Helen Gordon and Glyn Smith to the board. All these appointments have been made for three years from 21 September, 2010.
