Award winning trader Paul Stein

New Covent Garden Market (NCGM) customer Paul Stein has won Westminster Council’s Market Trader of the Year 2008.

The three-time finalist beat off competition from more than 500 nominated traders across all sectors, clinching the title ahead of five other finalists.

Stein has run a fruit stall on Oxford Street for nearly 25 years. He was praised by judges for “his personality and lovely, gentle way with customers, as well as the fantastic quality fruit he sells on his stall”.

Gary Marshall, chairman of Covent Garden Tenants’ Association, said: “We are really chuffed that Paul has won this award. He has been buying at the market for years and we are delighted to see great stall holders like Paul recognised.”
