Cornish spuds in at Asda

Local new potatoes were well received by shoppers at Asda in Cornwall when they appeared on the shelves last week.

The spuds reach stores within hours of leaving the field to give the customer the freshest possible product, according to Morris Grose of Helston-based producer M+A Grose, who is supplying the retailer.

He said: “As a Cornish grower, I am delighted to be able to have my crop in-store as quickly as possible, therefore ensuring Asda customers are offered quality, fresh, local produce.”

Asda buyer Drew Kirk added: “With its unique taste and texture it gives the customer a fantastic start to the domestic season. We actively support the early Cornish campaign and are very pleased to have a strong regional offer in our stores.”

The product is available at the Falmouth store and will very shortly be available on the shelves of the Bodmin and St Austell branches.
