Conference gears up for Eastern Europe

FRESH2005 is all set to take place in Budapest from June 1-3.

The European-wide conference looks at the international fresh fruit and vegetable business, and takes place at the five-star Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal. It will be the first time that the congress meets in eastern Europe and organisers claimed it is showing all signs of smashing previous attendance records.

A spokesman said: “Budapest, one of Europe’s busiest business cities, is an excellent location for FRESH2005. It’s becoming an essential new trading hub in the new member states of the EU as well as one of the fastest growing modern food retail markets in Europe.

“FRESH2005 will be a great chance for decision makers in the international produce business to meet and do business with some of Hungary’s leading fresh produce traders and food retailers.”

The event is organised jointly by Eurofruit Magazine and Freshfel Europe, Europe’s fresh produce trade association.

The conference will feature a mixture of keynote presentations, panel discussions and break-out sessions.

The panel discussions, including a new questions-and-answer format, are intended to highlight many of the key issues in the fresh produce trade today.

The spokesman added: “And, for the first time, you can choose to join a series of breakout sessions to learn more about a special industry issue.

“Conference topics are due to include the latest developments in food retailing, what’s happening in global production and markets as well as breakout sessions on R&D, logistics, good agricultural practice, how to set up a business in eastern Europe and export success stories to the EU.”

John Kay, the renowned business economist and Financial Times columnist, will give FRESH delegates his unique perspective on the future for international trade.
