Compass Group UK & Ireland has teamed up with the Department of Health’s Change4Life programme to roll out a new phase of healthy eating promotion.

This month Change4Life launched a new campaign called Be Food Smart, which aims to educate people about healthy eating. Compass is rolling the Be Food Smart programme out across all of the central government sites it provides catering services to in the UK.

In support of Be Food Smart, Compass will be displaying flyers in its eateries and on its Know Your Food boards which display health and wellbeing messages. It will also promote a Be Food Smart meal option which will change on a daily basis and consist of a main meal plus a piece of fruit, fresh fruit salad or low fat yoghurt and water, with a combined total of under 600 calories.

Ian Sarson, group managing director of Compass Group UK & Ireland, said: “We believe that caterers can play a pivotal role in helping and encouraging people to eat a healthy, balanced diet and consumer education is an essential part of this. This is why we introduced our Know Your Food programme in 2012 and why we are pleased to support this new Change4Life initiative. I’m sure the Be Food Smart campaign will be a great success and I look forward to seeing it in action in our central government contracts.”
