Catering giant Compass has entered the lucrative garden centre catering industry through a £2.4 million contract with Garsons Garden Centre.

The five-year deal will see Compass’ Instore business introduce a new fresh food offer and refurbish the restaurant at the garden centre in Titchfield, Hampshire.

The news comes as Compass recently posted a slight dip in pre-tax profit for the year to 30 September 2013 of £721 million, compared with £789 million in the previous year.

However, global group revenue was up 3.9 per cent on 2012 to £17.6 billion, the UK and Ireland accounting for £1.8 billion of that figure.

Business director for Instore Andy Rees said: “We’re over the moon to have won this new contract and we are really excited about nurturing our budding relationship with Garsons.

“This is our first venture into the thriving garden centre sector, and with our expertise there’s a lot we can add to create a great customer experience for garden enthusiasts.”

Ben Thompson, director at Garsons, added: “We are extremely pleased to announce that we have awarded this contract to Compass. Key to our decision was its combination of market-leading food and drink knowledge coupled with winning design ideas and dedicated operational expertise.”

Instore is part of Compass Group UK & Ireland’s brand, Eurest, which supplies a range of outlets in the foodservice sector.

Garsons Garden Centre has two sites, with one at Esher in Surrey as well as its Hampshire location.
