Colombian flower association Asocolflores is enhancing its ethical trading credentials. The association met last month with the board of the Ethical Trading Initiative in London with the aim of understanding the differences between the ETI base code and the Colombian group’s own Florverde standards. Florverde now hopes to be able to harmonise its code with that of the DTI.

Florverde is the Colombian flower industry's social and environmental programme. It was created by Asocolflores in 1996 to better the social and environmental conditions of the industry and attain a sustainable and competitive sector. It promotes continuous improvement in order to achieve the highest standards in the farms.

The aim is for workers to encounter fair treatment, equal opportunity, and participation.
