The flower is said to be the world’s first ever seed-raised Angelonia, or Summer Snapdragon, and features natural branching, with no need to pinch, with a finished plant ready to sell in colour in only 12 weeks. Serena had earlier been named winner in the best new plant category.

Elsewhere Melcourt Industries carried off the prize for best new grower product for its Salad-Bag, a cost-effective, recyclable growing medium for all protected salads.

The product was created following six years of R&D, with trials having shown it to provide a viable alternative to mineral wool.

Melcourt has jointly conducted research together with the HDC and WRAP which concluded that crops of equal quality and yield to the mineral wool control could be achieved with minimal changes to crop managaement.
