The Euro-ACP country liaison committee (ColeACP) is seeking new members as it makes a fresh start.

The initiative comes following analysis of the responses to a questionnaire sent out by ColeACP in June this year.

“This information has served as the basis for working out the ColeACP strategy and defining an action plan that could mobilise ACP and European operators in the horticultural sector,” said Catherine Guichard, ColeACP delegate-general. “This is going to be a fresh start for ColeACP and the stakes are high. ColeACP can and wants to play a leading role in sustainably energising the ACP-EU horticultural sector by taking on new functions and tasks....it will need to become more representative and attract new members.”

The committee has drawn up an action plan that makes projections for the next four years: an ACP-EU association of 210 members divided evenly between the different countries and across the different sub-sectors of the industry, with a European HQ and regional task forces in ACP countries aiming to create wealth through the increase of ACP-EU trade.

“In the ACP countries, many of the projects that are financed by donor agencies build on factors that existed before,” said Guichard. “But they do not try to overcome impediments to the interconnections between these factors. This interface function is at the heart of the new ColeACP strategy.”
