The Kentish cobnut season is running 10-14 days early this year and growers are benefiting from consumers’ burgeoning interest in local supplies.
“The early start is because of the slightly erratic weather we have had,” said Kentish Cobnuts Association chairman Alexander Hunt. “The clusters are slightly smaller this year. It is all to do with pollination in February and March. There is some frost damage too but only very light.”
Hunt has already picked a third of his crop when usually this would not be the case until the first week in September.
