The Co-operative Group has been revealed as the organisation topping the list of groups benefiting from subsidies under the Common Agricultural Policy.

The Co-op subsidiary, Farmcare, which focuses on arable, fruit and vegetable production, receives £2.6 million a year in subsidies. The company has a turnover of around £21m a year.

The news is the first time the level of subsidies received by the UK’s 100,000 farming organisations has been revealed.
