Co-op prepares to clinch Somerfield deal

The Co-operative Group may buy supermarket chain Somerfield in a deal worth up to £2 billion from its private equity owners next week, the Sunday Express reported.

The Co-op is expected to sell some Somerfield stores to rivals, said the newspaper.

A consortium including Apax Partners Worldwide LLP, Barclays Capital and the Tchenguiz Family Trust bought Somerfield in December 2005.
