The Co-operative Group is showing its support for British tomatoes this season, with a little help from suppliers IVG White.
The retailer is looking to provide a dedicated British offer on loose classic tomatoes to its customers for the whole of the summer season.
IVG White has been supplying the chain with produce for over 50 years, and Victor White, md, said: "Our business is all about providing the consumer with best-in-season. Ensuring that the Co-op and its customers get the finest British produce, fresh from the field, has been a labour of love for my family for decades.
“This is typically epitomised by the decision to provide a British-specific offer on loose tomatoes for Co-op customers this summer. We could not ask for a better commitment from the Co-op.”
IVG White will be providing the tomatoes to the Co-op by working with two key growers at different locations, to ensure shorter lead times from picking-to-shelf. Cornerways Nursery in Norfolk will provide tomatoes to the Co-op’s depots in East Anglia and the Midlands, while the award-winning John Baarda Nursery at Brough on Humberside will cover depots in Derbyshire and Yorkshire.
