HACCP will be the main focus for CMi Africa at this year’s Allfresh conference, to be held next week in Cape Town.

CMi Africa general manager Wouter Conradie said: “The new standard, SANS 10330:2006, that was recently improved by the South African government and technical experts in the industry, will be the most comprehensive standard in the world.

“It is the most robust system and rigorous standard in place, and has already attracted a lot of interest from local businesses supplying the domestic market.

“Whilst BRC remains an important standard for supplying produce into the UK, HACCP is a much more appropriate management and assurance tool for the industries that are supplying the South African markets,” he adds.

CMi, which is one of the main sponsors of Allfresh, has been trialling the new HACCP standard over the winter for the last couple of years, and will now be offering the service to clients immediately.

The next step is to achieve accreditation with SANAS, which is the equivalent to UKAS. Aside from the fresh produce trade, there is also interest from the pet food, dairy and wine industries.

“We are delighted to be sponsoring this event once again and we feel that it is a very important opportunity for us to have a presence where we will meet most of our clients and potential clients in the fresh produce sector,” said Conradie. “Our new team will be on hand to talk about the issues surrounding assurances."
