Quality-certified easy-peeler Clemcott has been withstanding the cold temperatures that have dealt a harsh blow to other Spanish citrus so far this season.
Enrico Beloso of Clemcott Trade Consulting told freshinfo: “Clemcott is the only certified mandarin and it is immune to the damage caused by low temperatures on mandarin plantations this winter. The quality certification guarantees the final consumer that each Clemcott has successfully passed the selection process. Of the 100,000 estimated tonnes of Nadorcott this season, 30 per cent carry the Clemcott certificate of conformity.”
Cold temperatures have led to losses of an estimated €142 million this season so far. Meanwhile, figures released by Spanish orange and easy-peeler promotional body Intercitrus last week show that easy-peelers are some 50,000 tonnes up on last season.
