The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) has announced the appointment of Rob Clayton as interim director of its Potato Council.

Clayton, long-time head of knowledge transfer at the council, takes over from Sandra Ziles who took up the post last summer. She is leaving AHDB later this month for a job in retail.

AHDB chief executive said: “Dr Clayton brings a breadth of skills to the role that encompasses leadership, technical expertise and good customer communications. He was a key player in the recent integration and relaunch of the Potato Council and has a real passion for the potato industry.”

Clayton has over 20 years experience in the potato sector and holds a degree in agricultural science and a doctorate in plant pathology. His appointment has the full backing of the Potato Council board.

Roberts said Ziles’s departure to join a fast-growing retailer to lead creation its own-label range was “a rare career opportunity she felt she could not pass up.”
