Groceries Code Adjudicator Christine Tacon has been named as the new chair of the MDS training scheme.
Tacon, who takes on the role from 3 May 2016, replaces Doug Henderson MBE, a former chief executive of the Fresh Produce Consortium (FPC) who has been head of MDS since 2004.
Having formerly worked in the confectionary and telecommunications sectors, Tacon is most well known for her work in agriculture. She managed the Co-operative’s farming business for 11 years, and was appointed as the first GCA in 2015.
As MDS chair she will be responsible for developing the organisation’s business plan and training strategy.
Julius Joel, director and former MDS trainee said: “It is great that Christine has agreed to help us take MDS to its next level. Her experience and energy will help the business strengthen its service to its member companies, re-invigorate its training platform and build on the unique management development program we offer.”
Saffy Connolly, MDS chief operations officer, said: “Her experience in strategic planning, leadership and development, teamed with her desire to see a strengthened UK groceries sector will play a vital role in building and spreading the MDS success story.”
Tacon added: “I am delighted to accept this role with MDS. I am keen to see a new generation of leaders in the groceries sector equipped with the best possible training and working with MDS I aim to achieve this.”
