Beating the celebrity bananas will be the aim of the game on Sunday 25th June 2006 for the 10k Chiquita Bananaman Chase, in aid of Leukaemia Research.

Fundraising runners will be hoping to beat as many of the 10 celebrities dressed in banana suits as they can over three laps of the fast, flat and traffic free course at Victoria Park, East London.

Celebrity ‘bananas’ from Leukaemia Research’s TVTimes-Asics sponsored celebrity running team aiming to stay one step ahead of the bunch include stars from ITV1 soap favourite Emmerdale, Tony Audenshaw and Ursula Marsden, as well as Shauna MacDonald from hit BBC drama Spooks.

The celebrities will each start at different times, ahead of and behind the main pack, and 1,500 experienced and first-time fun runners are expected to join the chase round the banana-shaped course and make it a day to remember.

Money raised from the event, which is sponsored by banana brand Chiquita and coincides with the first National Banana Week, will go towards Leukaemia Research’s challenging goal of committing over £100million to new leading laboratory research and clinical trials with patients over the next five years.

All entrants will receive a race-day t-shirt and finishers will get the much sought-after ‘Bananaman medal’ as well as lots of other goodies for taking part. Anyone over 15 is welcome to join the race to beat the bananas, and help raise vital cash to fight blood cancers.

Entry prices are only £15.00, and there’s still time to join the pack of fundraising runners preparing for the unique opportunity of chasing stars from the world of film and TV. Log onto www.bananaman10k.com email banana@lrf.org.uk or phone 020 7269 9001 for more details.
