Chiquita Brands International has acquired Keelings's UK banana ripening and distribution business at Dewsbury and Glasgow. “This transaction is part of Chiquita's ongoing strategy to focus on our core fresh produce business and drive better performance,” said Cyrus Freidheim, Chiquita's chairman and chief executive officer. “This acquisition will allow us to get closer to our UK customers and offer enhanced, value-added services. It will also provide a platform for growth opportunities in the region.”
At the same time, Keelings purchased the minority share in Keelings Ltd, previously held by Chiquita. “We will continue the group's expansion, with an increased emphasis on growing,” said Joe Keeling, Keelings' chairman and chief executive.
“We have had an excellent business relationship through the years,” Freidheim said. “We look forward to continue working together in Ireland where Keelings ripens and distributes Chiquita bananas.”
Keelings is an Irish fresh produce company operating in Ireland, the United Kingdom, Spain and the Netherlands. The company produces, sources and distributes a wide range of fresh produce.
