Nell McAndrew launches Chip Week 2004

UK glamour girl Nell McAndrew confessed to being a chip fan this week as she signed up in support of the British Potato Council (BPC)'s National Chip Week which runs until February 22.

McAndrew explained how she could not resist chips and urged consumers to use National Chip Week as the ideal excuse to enjoy the Great British Chip.

The high profile London launch on Monday signalled the start of feverish consumer activity for the BPC with the media, major retailers and fish and chip shops. Marketing manager Kathryn Race said the campaign focuses on the fun and irresistibility of chips. "Chips remain very popular," said Race. "Every person in the UK eats 820 potatoes a year, a quarter of which are chips. Over one million tonnes of UK potatoes are grown for chipping."

McAndrew also helped launch a new Official Chip Fan Club hosted on www.lovechips.co.uk for members of the public to share their favourite chip stories. The website lists nutritional facts, recipes and chip anecdotes. According to BPC research, other celebs that can't resist the lure of Britain's best food are supermodels Kate Moss and Jodie Kidd, TV presenters Melinda Messenger, Zoe Ball, Tara Palmer Tomkinson and the UK's most glamorous pensioner, Joan Collins.
