Chip week ahoy

Chip lovers are flocking to the British Potato Council’s website, in preperation for National Chip Week.

So far, www.lovechips.co.uk, which provides a host of chip related facts and figures, games and recipes, has had more than 10,000 hits in just 10 days, the BPC claimed.

Using the slogan “Love Chips”, the organisation is hoping to keep the nation’s number one dish in consumers’ minds during the week, from February 14-20.

A number of in-store promotions have also been planned by Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Waitrose.

Kathryn Race, BPC marketing manager, said: “During previous campaigns, retailers reported an increase in sales and fish and chip shops reported sales increase of up to 33 per cent. Caterers and pubs also saw demand swell weeks after the promotion.”
