Chinese Fuji exports delayed by one month

Fuji apple exports from China to the UK have been delayed by one month following frost and snow at the beginning of February.

Temperatures have dropped to -6ºC in the Shaanxi province and are not expected to improve until the end of the month.

The Shaanxi area produces six million tonnes of Fuji apples at high altitudes each year and is the second-biggest production area in the country, after the Shandong province.

The Yanxi River area has also been affected by the adverse weather conditions.

The Fuji apple season normally starts at the beginning of October.

Kathy Han, sales manager of international marketing development at the Shaanxi Huasheng (Group) Corp. Fruit Co Ltd, told FPJ: “Exports to the European market this year have been lower than in previous years. But we had already sent enough fruit for the UK market when the weather problems began.”

The China-based firm has been exporting Fuji to the UK for eight years, and supplies the UK multiples.
