De Ruiter Seeds officially opened its new site in Shougang, province of Shandong, in China on April 28.
After years of collaboration with local Chinese representatives, De Ruiter Seeds decided, in 2007, to build a joint screening and demonstration site in co-operation with distributor Tiajin Derit Seeds.
China has the largest market for consumption and production of vegetables. The Chinese currently grow vegetables to provide for their own needs and to supply local markets. But the Chinese economy, as well as the economy of the surrounding countries, is growing and so is the demand for high-quality vegetables. With this new site, De Ruiter Seeds hopes it will be able to grow along with the economy and screen young plant material much faster.
