Prices for chilli peppers on UK markets have been running high as demand for the product outstrips supply. Dutch growers dominate at this time of year and explain that the issue is not just confined to the UK market. “Demand is strong everywhere in Europe, not just in the UK,” said Richard Da Wit of Rainbow Growers. “Prices are at €5.50 a kilo and will remain high for a while as Spain will not start until the third week of October with big volumes not expected until mid-November.” On Belfast market this week 3kg cartons of chillies were making 1700p.
