Chilean blueberry exports are a third up on last season, according to the country’s blueberry committee.

With only a few weeks of the season left to run, some 64,800 tonnes have been exported, with the total for the end of the campaign forecast to reach 66,000t. Sendings to Europe in general increased by some 26 per cent year on year as senders endeavoured to grow markets outside the US, which holds an 85 per cent share of the Chilean export crop.

The season started strongly in terms of fruit quality and volume, although rains and high temperatures in production areas since January have caused some quality problems.
