Chilean scientists are working on seven new potato varieties. After four years of work on 24 different experimental lines, Chile’s potato consortium has narrowed down its quest to seven varieties that show considerable commercial potential. Two of these are likely to be registered within the next two seasons and three show potential for the processing market.

The consortium is co-funded by two government agencies and counts 16 different companies and producer associations among its membership as well as well as Inia, the national institute for farm and fisheries research and the Universidad de Los Lagos.
