The snow and frost in Chile may well threaten early grape production and possibly even cherry volume, some producers are now warning.

As reported on freshinfo, Chile’s IX region was hard hit by the worst of unseasonable weather in the South American country, and there has been an effect on the avocado crop, with up to 40 per cent potentially lost, but further fears have now been raised.

According to the national fruit growers’ federation, Fedefruta, harvests of other stonefruit, including peaches, nectarines and apricots, are all threatened. Other press reports from the country have also indicated that the 50-year low temperatures have caused losses of a third of the citrus crop as well.
