A new fresh produce group has been set up for users of CHEP pallets and trays to help regulate the container system.

The user group was formed by the Processed Vegetable Growers' Association (PVGA), the Fresh Produce Consortium (FPC) and CHEP – the company that overseas the pallet distribution system – and will hold regular meetings to review joint industry issues.

The establishment of the group came about following regular consultation between the PVGA, FPC and CHEP about the overall system.

Tim Mudge of PVGA said: 'By keeping in regular contact with CHEP, and listening to what is happening from the fresh produce industry, we have been able to work to improve communication between them and their customers.

'We are now regularly updated with the development of the new systems CHEP is implementing, and assisting in identifying areas of potential improvement, such as administration.' He added that by continuing to work with growers, packers, importers and CHEP, the highest levels of service could be guaranteed.

Mudge added: 'We hope that the industry will support us in keeping this momentum going.' The PVGA is proposing to offer updates from the user group and raise issues of interest to contributing companies for an annual fee of £50. The fee is not applicable to FPC members.
