Charles Wilson

Booker Group ceo Charles Wilson has become president of IGD with Mars Chocolate UK’s Fiona Dawson becoming vice-president.

Wilson has been vice-president of IGD for the last two years and succeeds Sainsbury’s ceo Justin King. Both the president and vice-president will serve for two years.

One role for the president is to chair IGD’s industry leaders’ forum, the Policy Issues Council (PIC), which spearheads many of our industry-wide initiatives that deliver benefits for consumers.

The PIC is a forum for chairmen and chief executives of a wide range of companies throughout the food and grocery supply chain.

Wilson said: “The PIC is one of the most powerful and positive forces for change in our industry thanks to the support of companies of all sizes along the supply chain. For example, over the past month we made an industry-wide commitment towards work experience and apprenticeships and also to eliminating and diverting 225,000 tonnes of waste from landfill over the next two years.

“I will help IGD continue to improve the grocery supply chain to benefit the UK’s 60 million consumers via the 600,000 businesses and the 3.6 million people employed in the British grocery trade.”

Fiona Dawson said: “I am very much looking forward to working with Charles and contributing to an exciting programme of activities at IGD spanning sustainability, skills and nutrition.”

IGD ceo Joanne Denney-Finch said: “Charles has been a long-term supporter of key IGD initiatives and in particular our work to reduce HGV miles on the British roads. He will be an inspirational president. Fiona has had a long association with IGD, not least as a former trustee. She is passionate about the food and grocery industry and we are delighted that she has become our vice-president, supporting Charles.”
