Certis Europe has been appointed distributor in Europe for a number of soil fumigant products, which will be sold by BASF to Japanese agrochemical company Kanesho Soil Treatment BVBA.

The existing distribution of Basamid by Certis in the UK continues and will now be extended to other European countries. The deal will also include the MITC monitoring system Basamid Innotec.

Certis UK general manager Peter Hingley said: “The expansion of the Certis soil fumigation business is particularly important given plans to phase out methyl bromide across Europe.”

The distribution agreement also grants Certis Europe the rights to develop and market a new soil fumigant, DMDS (dimethyl disuphide) in Europe, which offers growers further choice of product in the future.

Sales will commence across Europe, after the official closing of the global acquistion agreement, which is expected by the end of December.
